Taylor County
Florida's North Region
Taylor County is one of the few places in Florida where you can harvest your own scallops. You'll find scalloping opportunities along our entire coastline, including Keaton Beach, Hagen's Cove and Steinhatchee. This unique activity is fun for the whole family and requires minimal resources to get started. It's relatively simple, and after spending an afternoon in the water searching out scallops, you can enjoy the fruits of your labor that evening for supper.
Calling All Paddlers! A great way to explore our lovely area is from the seat of a canoe. We have canoe trails for all skill levels - from beginners to experts. For those who have never picked up a paddle, local guides in the area will be happy to point you in the right direction.
Taylor County is bordered to the east by the russet-colored waters of the Aucilla River. Paddlers will find a wonderful canoeing opportunity on our segment of the 19-mile Aucilla River Canoe Trail system.
Forgot your binoculars? Don't let your feathers get ruffled! A variety of birds roost along the Steinhatchee River that are easily seen and identified without the aid of binoculars. You're likely to encounter egrets, blue herons, swallow-tailed kites and many more species up close and personal.
